Confirmed! Adele Is Performing at the Oscars: Here's Why We're Thrilled

Though it seemed like a given that Adele would perform at the Academy Awards, it's exciting to have the news finally confirmed. The British singer will officially sing "Skyfall" during the Feb. 24 ceremony, which is fitting because it's the first James Bond theme since 1981's "For Your Eyes Only" to be up for the best original song category.
Fortunately Adele, 24, is just as thrilled about this news as we are. "It's an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again," she says in a statement. "It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once!"
Lucky for her, this year's Oscars will be even more special for all things 007. A James Bond tribute is being held in honor of the franchise's 50th anniversary, which will likely equate to a video montage. How much more awesome would it be if Adele sang "Skyfall" live as that montage plays? Or -- even better -- if some of the other Bond singers came out and performed their own hits alongside her? Many speculate that The Academy will bring together all the original James Bond actors on stage for this event (as long as Sean Connery doesn't hold out), so it would be cool to see the same thing happen with its Bond theme performers.
It's also worth noting that this is Adele's first U.S. television performance since she sang at the Grammys in 2012. By the time the Oscars roll around, that will have been more than a year ago, and we'll be seriously Adele deprived. Considering Adele, who picked up a Golden Globe this year for the 007 tune, is basically a shoe-in for winning the Academy Award as well (fingers crossed), it should make this night even more special.
Hopefully this won't be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Adele like she seems to think, but if it is, wouldn't it make sense to celebrate it with her new family? We don't know about bringing a newborn to the Oscars, but Adele will likely at least show up with boyfriend Simon Konecki. If she walks the red carpet, maybe she'll finally even admit to her son's name -- though she might have already.
Bottom line: We're excited to see Adele perform at the Oscars. It beats the song simply playing through the speakers, or someone else singing it for her. Even if the other possibilities we mentioned don't happen, it will be exciting enough just to have her singing live on stage.
