You'd think that Paris Hilton would know by now that she needs to watch what she says -- especially if she is out in public. The Hilton heiress was recently recorded making a number of blatantly derogatory comments against gay men while she was taking a cab ride in Manhattan for New York Fashion Week.
The cab driver recorded the conversation Hilton was having with her openly gay model friend and then brought it to Radar Online. Though her spokesperson has since come out to try to defend the 31-year-old's actions, it's going to be hard to come back from the offensive speech.
"Gay guys are the horniest people in the world. They're disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS," Hilton says in the tape. "I would be so scared if I were a gay guy. You'd like, die of AIDS."
Hilton's spokesperson has since come out to explain her comments, saying, "Paris Hilton’s comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life threatening disease. The conversation became heated, after a close gay friend told her in a cab ride, a story about a gay man who has AIDS and is knowingly having unprotected sex. He also discussed a website that encourages random sex by gay men with strangers."
The statement continues, "As she was being shown the website her comments were in reference to those people promoting themselves on the site. The cab driver who recorded this, only provided a portion of the conversation. It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays. Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone’s sexual orientation.”
The app in question is one called Grindr, which allows gay men to log in and locate other gay men looking to hook up. The driver who recorded the conversation was apparently taken aback by Hilton's statements, telling Radar Online, "I couldn't believe what was coming out of Paris' mouth and the way she was talking about gay men."
