The Best Online Shopping in Canada
There’s no place I’d rather shop for holiday gifts than the internet — no people, no crowds, no dirty looks. Like the bricks and mortar stores, I’ll still be playing Christmas music, but I respect your decision to skip that step. If you’re looking to keep things simple this year, check out these 10 awesome online shops.(11 Photos)
Whether you need a new outfit for New Year’s Eve, or a gift for a stylish friend, Dress911 is a fantastic place to start. Based in London, Ontario, this boutique has a wide range of dresses, tops, and accessories, and includes a generous plus size selection. Shipping to Canada and the US is only $7, and Canadian returns and exchanges are free.
ModCloth is an obvious stop for shoppers looking for a vintage feel. Shipping can be estimated before purchase so there are no surprises. Duties and taxes will apply (though my sources tell me if you choose USPS regular mail you may not be charged at the door).
Perks: On occasion they’ll offer a “stylish surprise” secret item that you can purchase in your size, sight-unseen, at a deep discount. And once you receive your purchase, snap a pic of your cat in the shipping box for their Facebook page.
Lands’ End specializes in cozy and comfortable. I love them for winter gear, swimsuits, and basic tees. Things are on sale all the time, usually still in the season you’re buying for, and you’ll often find coupons and shipping offers on front-page. (If you have a little patience, you’ll never pay for shipping). They also have the most liberal return policy of any retailer I’ve seen. You can return anything, at any time. Don’t believe it? Check out the taxi story on their website.
Macy's is great if you’re a hard size to fit and need the variety the larger US market brings – they offer women’s shoes up to size 15 and a wide variety of clothing sizes. International shipping is quick and easy — duties, taxes, and shipping fees are all calculated at checkout so you’ll never be surprised at the door.
If you’re looking for gifts to ship to American friends, check out Uncommon Goods. They have a huge selection of strange and wonderful gift options at all price points. They currently don’t ship to Canada, but feature lots of great gift ideas you can likely find on other sites.
Think Geek is obviously perfect for the “geek” in your life, but also has cool gifts for young scientists, chic tech accessories, and fun office supplies. Shipping varies based on what you’re buying and where it’s going (it can be pricey if you’re only ordering something small), but is often worth it for the unusual finds. Customs fees and taxes are your responsibility at the door.
Etsy is an online shopping utopia. I’m cheating a bit here because it’s actually thousands of shops on one site. It’s especially great for unique jewellery, fashion and tech accessories, baby gifts, clothing, and everything you’d need for a low-key wedding. You’ll find both vintage and handmade goods from all over the world. Be sure to check-out the seller’s feedback from previous customers, as well as their shipping policies.
Well.ca carries everything you’d find in a modern drug store (excluding prescriptions), plus more. I love their always-free regular shipping, easy to use site, excellent customer service, and free returns. Faster shipping is available for a fee.
Shop.ca is relatively new to the online marketplace but they offer an impressive selection, including books and music, furniture, strollers, and house wares. Most Canadian orders ship free with no purchase minimums which sets this site up to replace many others we’ve come to rely on. They only ship to Canadian addresses (kind of refreshing, actually) and offer a 365 day return period!
Kitchen Stuff Plus
Kitchen Stuff Plus is my favourite stop for trendy kitchen items, but their retail locations are fairly limited. Luckily, their website offers the same discounts you’d enjoy in-store without the hassle. Canadian shipping to most locations is free with a $75 minimum. Items can be returned in store, or by mail (you pay the shipping).
The Shopping Channel
Canada's The Shopping Channel has an ever-expanding inventory of gems that traverse every sector of your life, from Manitobah Mukluks to Paderno kitchen gear to exclusive brands and unique collaborations. Be sure to check out their daily showstopper, featuring their best product of the day.
