Week In Review: After-Sex Selfies, Flesh-Bound Books & Lorde Is Badass

#AfterSex selfies even extend to pets...

Once again we are stunned to see just what the Internet churned out this week. Here are some things we’ll be adding to our cocktail party-specific “awkward-silence breakers” file.

People in China are breathing clean air out of bags now
Even though this was a stunt, the fact remains that China’s air quality is beyond bad. “The air-quality index of Zhengzhou on Tuesday was 151. Beijing's was 181. In Los Angeles, it was 4. Anything over 150 is considered unhealthy.” When L.A. seems like a smogless paradise, you’re doing something very, very wrong.

#AfterSex selfies are a thing on Instagram, I guess?
While I wouldn’t call 4,000-odd photos “viral,” people do seem to be photographing themselves in bed, post-coitus. Some are sexy, some are cheeky and some are just shots of one’s own hand and a box of Kleenex.

Migration pattern make for beautiful infographics
“The world’s population is on the move,” and isn’t it nice to see that movement illustrated in one gorgeous rainbow graphic? If you’re a fan of data, the flow of global human movement or pretty colours, you’re in for a treat.

Cigarettes top the list of most garbage floating in the ocean
Cigarettes: they stain your teeth, they make your clothes smell and volunteers found 2.1 million of them in one day of ocean clean-up. Food wrappers aren’t far behind on the top 10 list, followed by plastic beverage bottles. Just another reason to drink out of a mason jar this summer (the first reason is because it’s adorable).

Harvard has books in its library that are bound with human flesh
As if studying at Harvard wasn’t stressful enough as it is, it’s been discovered that three books in the school’s collection are bound with human skin! “In one case, skin harvested from a man who was flayed alive.” Squick!

Lorde is a badass chick
Thank you, rock gods, for giving us Lorde -- a female celeb who tweets out the unretouched versions of photos of her face, letting everyone know that “Flaws are OK.” Bless you, sweet princess.
