America's Next Top Model episode 8

The theme of this week’s episode is “Go Viral” – a take-off on virtual unknowns who post videos to YouTube only to find their videos shared by hundreds of thousands of people. I find this ironic because before Top Model, Allison actually started out as internet meme Creepy-Chan and is way more famous for that than for Top Model.

Jay tells the girls they are going to be penning their own lyrics to a track that was written for each of them, but they only get 20 minutes to listen to it and compose lyrics. Tom Polce, a music producer for CBS records, will be producing their tracks (no pressure).

After writing their lyrics, they head over to the Village Music Studio to record their songs. The dumbest part of the challenge is a last minute requirement that they find a way to incorporate the words “Pot Ledom” (“Top Model” backwards) in their song. Tyra always finds a way to put her wacky stamp on things.

After their songs are mixed, they all shoot videos for their songs. On the day of the shoot, rapper Game (who is directing their videos) shows up and Angelea is the only girl who knows who he is -- though Lisa claims to be a big fan. Tyra makes an appearance looking like a harajuku girl and she is accompanied by yet another viral sensation, Keenan Cahill. Tyra and Keenan will be making appearances in each of the girls' videos as the back-up posse to help the videos “go viral”.

Dominique’s song, Tooch Ya Booty has her dolled up looking like a cross between Beyonce, J-Lo and Shakira. Game’s sage directing advice includes yelling “Booty back, chest out!” Tyra thinks she didn’t exaggerate her mouth enough.

Alexandria starts out in all sorts of trouble in her shoot for Go, Go, Go looking awkward and robotic. No matter what direction she is given, she can’t seem to loosen up. Game’s closing comments about her shoot were “Not enough time to put oil in the tin man,” and “I never felt like I wanted to go anywhere”. Yeouch!

Shannon does a nice job on World Go Round but she lacks lustre and ends up looking like a low-rent Sheryl Crow.

Laura’s video for Southern Sweet Girl is very cute (think Britney Spears in Lucky) and Andre thinks she is “Giddy, fun, charming” - but he says it like he just got a mouthful of bad caviar.

Lisa, who starts out by saying “I better do 800 times better than everyone else,” impresses everyone with I Be Like Whoa. She gets complimented for having energy on par with Missy Elliot and is told her song could be on the radio.

My favourite model, Allison, clearly connected with Game from the get-go. When he found out that her song Underwater, was about her father who passed away last year, he told her about losing his Grandma who was the only person who believed he could amount to anything. During the shoot, Game loves everything she does in front of the camera and at panel he tells her “You are weird! You are the most weirdly beautiful person I have ever seen!”

At panel, Allison’s artistic video beats out Lisa’s radio hit, and Alexandria gets the boot, so she gets to Go, Go, Go. (See what I did there?)

Tune in next week to see the girls travel to Greece! Good to see someone supporting their economy!
