America's Next Top Model: Tyra Wants to be on Top!
Bell Media
Now that the competition is down to four models, the heat is on -- and not just because they’re in Greece. This week’s challenge is one of the best yet. The girls are tasked with writing a blog which will be judged by the editor of Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani, who also blogs on Vogue.it. Since the winner will also be blogging for Vogue.it, it’s a good idea to make sure that the finalists can string a sentence together.
The girls are given three hours to pick an outfit, find a location, take photos of themselves, and write a blog. That’s a lot to squeeze in, though if I was 5-foot-10 and 110 pounds, I bet I could do it! Somehow they all manage to complete the task in the given amount of time. As usual, Lisa looks particularly confident.
After reviewing the blogs, Franca’s feedback is that Laura is the girl next store and Allison is strong but her blog is too short. Angelea’s blog has a great photo and she did a terrific job writing about fashion, while Lisa’s blog has lots of personality. Despite the fact that Nigel attempts to throw Angelea under the bus by telling Franca that she is a loose canon, Franca picks Angelea. Finally! Angelea for the win!
This week, instead of a photo shoot, the girls will be starring in a motion editorial about Tyra’s book, Modelland. The book features the main character “Tookie” and Tyra refers to it as a “fantastical campy book”. While I personally can’t imagine reading this book (I don’t enjoy the feeling of brain cells oozing out of my ears), the shoot was certainly entertaining.
Tyra directs the girls in various scenes, all ridiculous. Standouts include Allison dressed up as a cat, holding a cat, Laura shooting whipped cream all over herself, Lisa holding a plastic baby and pretending it’s real, and Angelea running down a cobble stone road in a canary yellow gladiator outfit. Oh, Tyra. Things look up when Tyson Beckford appears on set, but the girls don’t see much action because Tyra saves the kissing scene for herself, giving new meaning to the show’s slogan: “You wanna be on top?”
At panel Angelea is given credit for opening up and being convincing on camera. Tyson says she was a pleasure to work with and would have never guessed she is a potential time bomb. Laura is praised for being strong and emotional, but a little too sexual with the whipped cream (imagine that!). Allison got Nigel’s vote for being the most visually interesting, but Tyson thought she was too quiet. Lisa got props for her superb acting but was reminded by Tyra that sometimes she commits so much she forgets her model and turns into an actress -- which is funny, because wasn’t this a movie of sorts?.
Lisa wins top photo this week, followed by the challenge winner, Angelea. The bottom two are Allison and Laura -- the talented introvert vs. Miss Personality. Talent wins out and our favourite southern belle is sent home.
Tune in next week for the season finale to find out who the winner of America’s Next Top Model All-Star is!
