Washi tape – a beautiful Japanese masking tape available in colourful patterns and symbols - has been around for a few years now, but last year it really took off as a must-have item to store in your craft closet. As a confessed addict of basic party supplies like balloons, tissue paper and stripey straws, I’m not ashamed to say I’ve added a few rolls to my own stash of stuff.

I’m completely smitten with the pops of colour it adds to pretty much anything, and especially love that it can be used to easily jazz up some basic gift-wrapping.  From presents for little kids to holiday packages, it’s easy to put together an impressive gift-wrap when using nothing more than some kraft or butcher paper and pretty rolls of tape.

For the holiday/seasonal wrapping you’ll need:

•    Kraft paper (purchased at a dollar store)
•    Washi tape (sources below)
•    Standard tape
•    Twine (purchased at a dollar store)
•    Baker’s twine

Wrap your gifts in a plain kraft or butcher paper and embellish the package with washi tape, twine, baker’s twine and tags. If you’re not familiar with washi tape, here are list of sources for where to pick-up this pretty craft supply.
